On day 3 at Cardigan Mountain, my group hiked the Nature Trail. First thing in the morning we got called to wake up, pack our bags, go to breakfast, and get prepared to hike our last. There were different regions that ran throughout the trail. There was a region of hemlocks around 3/4 of the trail on the way to the stream, and not as many on the way back, because we took a different trail back to the lodge. This is a region, because there was an area of just that particular thing/plant. We hiked to the steam, and I caught a few Northern 2-lined Salamanders, along with some water striders, and a VERY weird bug that had two tails under a rock. On the way back to the lodge, we tried some winter green leaves (kind of tasted like mint gum!) and partridge berries which seemed to be kind of seedy and not have a very strong flavor.

There were a lot of different regions including the hemlock region I mentioned earlier. Another region could be the fields around the lodge. There are no fields on the Nature Trail that I hiked, so there is a region of just fields near the lodge. Grass is also another region, because it is just in the fields, and a little in the woods, but mostly leaves, dirt, mushrooms, and other plants. Since the grass is just in this area, it is a region. There are many other regions, but I unfortunately can not list them all because it would go on for a very long time. At the stream we used small nets to catch anything that we could sketch and identify. After that, we hiked back to the lodge and boarded the bus to leave. We got to the Hopkinton Middle High School to get picked up by our parents, and enjoy the rest of our Sunday.
